Large Format Prints: at least one of our members is interested in large format stills. From what I can find, large format prints donāt need the same dpi that smaller prints doā¦
If you will be sending out the print to make a banner or poster, Iād suggest contacting them before you render to get the specs they require.
As for Blenderās max render limitation, you might have to render it in pieces and then stitch them together later. Per the wiki (@ http://wiki.blender.org/index.php/Doc:2.6/Manual/Render/Output): "you can set any resolution you wish, subject to your PCās memory restrictions; see the Render page for ideas and techniques and tools for enabling huge render outputs. " Whereās the Render page?!? :o
Python: a few of us are interested in scripting. For those of us not familiar with the Python language I suggest, Udacity: http://www.udacity.com/
Iām going thru āCS101ā now and Part 1 took me about an hour to get thru. The video lectures are short and are followed by either multiple choice quiz or short code tests. There are some tricky questions, so donāt get discouraged, just try and if you get stuck search the forums!
I was interested in the LA group, but if there is an OC group, that works much better for me. Can I get on the list for the OC group? Is there a meetup page for it? I couldnāt find one.
@mmoore500 itās the same list atm, so just pm me your name, email and phone number if you like and I will make sure and mark you down as OC preference. Then I will pass your info on to iRoweBot who is coordinating some things with the OC crowd. I think the count is like 7 so farā¦
The bigger regional meetings will be for all of SoCal. We are figuring out ways to be flexible so all can stay involved and move the group or groups forward.
Update: we are still checking availibility on locations. If you know of a good location to have a user meeting please let us know, especially if it is south of L.A. so the west side and OC folks can get to it easier. Thanks!
Advance Notice: Keep an eye on the thread. It looks like we will be having a premiere of Tears of Steel here in Los Angeles in September to coincide with the Blender Institute premiere. More news to come as things develop!
The location and date of our September meeting is being solidified and our blog will be up soon also, so lots of things happening.
Woohoo! The meeting spaces are coming together. We have two schools in the valley area plus a hacker space in central L.A. We are looking at the 15th or the 22nd for the date pending confirmation. The preferred time looks to be 11am with an alternate of 6pm. I am trying to get the room open an hour early at 10am for working groups to meet. More info to come when I get it confirmed.
Thanks everybody for your help and energy, this group is having a good start so far.
JT
Iām not from L.A, but the vibe you guys have here is just something to feed off from. So yes, make photos, post links and stay active! itās all good energy!
REGIONAL MEETING UPDATE: The location has final confirmation. We will be meeting at The Build Shop in Los Angeles.
It is walking distance from metro rail Red Line Vermont/Beverly station. There is plenty of parking on the street.
This will be a great location. More info to come soon.

@Star Ranger4
For sure! Check out the yelp comments about Bryan and The Build Shop. Bryan teaches modeling and has used Blender before. He is looking forward to hosting the meeting.
From yelp:
āWhether youāre a small business owner looking to build a part, an artist creating their next masterpiece, student learning the cutting edge of personal prototyping, or maker looking to create their next cool gadget if you can dream it up we can help you build it!ā
NOTE: this is a growing trend that open source software is pairing up with build/hacker/maker spaces, especially with the popularity of 3D printing. I am looking forward to our group being involved.
Ok, our temporary group blog is up. Please check it out, it has some good āstaticā information. Please use this ba thread also for anyone stumbling across it or so someone searching for us can find us.
There is some good information on our working groups/SIGs concept so make sure and check that out.
I met with Bryan and The Build Shop looks great for our meeting. We can fit about 30 people in there. He has tables for the working groups. He has a good sound system for showing any video.
Bryan is also going to talk for a couple minutes about 3D printing. So this should work out well.
Keep an eye out Thursday for an email/post with any final updates. Remember, 10:00am if you want to participate in or start a working group. 11:00am official meeting starts and goes to 1:30pm.
