I’m just now rendering my new intro animation. This is the last frame:

Good work Jonathan, amazing showreel!! There’s so much I still have to learn in Blender and also great sketchbook, I reckon I’ll start mine soon. Good Luck

Thanks Tommy!

I’m starting to work on a grass pack for Cycles. First off, I needed to create a realistic shader that works well in all situations. Here’s the result so far:

The two pictures use the same shader settings, but I have it set up so that you should be able to quickly create any type of grass by modifying only a few settings without having to go into the node editor at all.

Looking great! I especially like the little flowers and the grass clusters, they really add to the realism. The only thing that looks unnatural me is the color, too blueish and saturated? But maybe thats just me.

This would be a real nice pack indeed. Would the pack include setups for the particles, or just the shaders? Either way it would be a nice addition.

On an unrelated note, a few of your tutorials (cell fracturing and animating a car crash) has been really helpful with my casino project I am trying to finish up now. Thanks for taking the time to make them Johnathan.

Thank you!

Suboptimal: I think you’re right about the flowers, I’ll have another look at them before working on the next one.

Harleynut97: No problem!
The pack would include multiple squares (park, savannah, cut lawn, AstroTurf, etc…), each one with a different type of grassy environment. It would come with shaders and particle systems for grass, with a few flowers, clover, leaves, rocks, and whatever other small stuff I can think of, as well as documentation on how to use them in your own projects. Once I get it all finished, It’ll be sold on the upcoming Blender Market for relatively cheap.

I finished up the particle settings for the park grass. Here’s a shot with different lighting than the ones above:

Time to move on to the next one!

WIP of grass type #2:

looking pretty cool, I almost expect a chinchilla to appear

Alright, the Lawn Grass pack is up for sale!

Wow Jonathan, is really oustanding your visual effects showreel, and the last render for grass looks very fantastic!
thanks very much for sharing inspiring content :)!

Thank you!
A preview of an upcoming tutorial (Modern hologram shader in Cycles) for Blender Diplom:

EDIT: Tutorial is up!

Nice jonathan . i hope you can do SSS tutorial too

Thanks Alekzsander, I will put that on my to-do list

I’m now in the beginning stages of a very large and awesome secret (for now) project. While doing some initial testing, I found this frame and found it somehow amusing:

that is cool, almost like the sphere is designed to be the head of the statue

a very large and awesome secret (for now) project

Sounds intriguing Jonathan  The sculpting looks good on this.

a large proyect . sounds really interesting my friend . hope can hear about it soon :).
