Yes, they work better actually - more control in my opinion.
Yes, and importing a path sometimes gives you some wonky stuff, which you have to fix anyway

How did I render an un-renderable rig? He’s actually modeled and rigged with his own rig 
Why did I do this? Because I wanted to have a renderable rig! 
If your rendered rig didn’t have a rig it could be rendered useless.
