You can’t do a gradient background currently.

Here is my Modo Theme:

and a screenie:

I put up my personal theme… yeah, there’s a bit of color in there… but it keeps things separated on my dual screen layout, and makes for identifying different panel region types easily when in the 3D “zone” Purists will likely not prefer this one, stick with the Maya2011 or Modo(for the B25 default) themes.

P.S. On OSX I had to change my permissions to launch Theme Manager, because the directory that it calls for is inside the Root-only Blender.app folder on OSX. I then had to create the “theme” folder myself to get Theme Manager to launch as an addon. It wouldn’t originally allow for creation of the Theme folder, due to me, an admin, not having root permissions to the nested folder within the app bundle. I changed the perms, but a newbie might not know how to on OSX. just a heads up.

I’ve added aermartin’s, demohero’s, LiquidApe’s and blenderificus themes to the summary list. I’m aware this list is not the most convenient repository (adding sample images would be nice for instance), but I haven’t had an answer yet from graphicall about having a theme repository on there.

The script is forcing a .blt extension, but if you enter an empty filename, it could happen that it sets .blt as filename and then adds .blt as extension. The file should be fine though (as you already found).

Thanks for the information, as I can’t test on osx. Some questions: is the folder it’s trying to call, the folder where also the other presets (cloth, sunsky, etc.) are located? And can you use the add-on without admin access once the folder is created?

Re the OSX issue. I couldn’t get the addon enabled(the checkbox in the addons panel), until, with admin access, I went in and added the “theme” folder myself, and gave myself privelages. in OSX it’s inside the app package:
blender-svn/install/darwin/blender.app/Contents/MacOS/2.56/scripts/presets/theme/

Perhaps using the standard script/startup-build path instead for all platforms if others have this issue. It might be just me, due to my build process. On OSX its located in :
/Users/3DUserName/Library/Application Support/Blender/2.56/

This might not be a problem for other OSX users that dont build their own though; I make my own builds regularly. If it happens again, and I can repeat it. I’ll make another report here.

P.S. Congrats on LoopTools making it into trunk!!! LoopTools is a finely produced and extremely useful tool. Thank you Crouch!

P.P.S. thanks for the add of my “personal” color theme to the repository.

Hear, Hear!

I’ll wait and see if any other users report the same issue. Of course the best solution would be if Blender would create a Theme preset folder by default on installation, like it does for the other preset folders. But I’ll have to consult some devs for this.

Curious - Would implementing a similar script to save keybindings separate from a blend file be trivial as well? The workflow for importing/exporting key bindings is kind of a pain as it stands now.

LiquidApe: saving keybindings seperate from a blend file shouldn’t be too hard to do. But there are some problems with keybindings that I don’t think have been solved yet. To name one: if you create a custom hotkey and save it to the default .blend, it’s available every time you start blender. However, if you open a new blend file from within blender, the custom hotkey is gone. (tested on RC2)
I think this problem needs to be solved before creating custom keymaps really becomes a viable option.

Hi, thx, finally we can save themes.

Here is my funky dark theme.

Get an error when installing other themes, but they are displayed.

edit :

on xp64 with 2.57 x64 official.

using application data install

Softblend my latest theme, will keep working on it

Guys,

The link for the THEME MANAGER at the original post IS NOT WORKING? Or is it just me?

Aidan

OK,

Downloads now work. I think it was the site itself was down. I found the MODO.bit file that works is at -

http://sites.google.com/site/bartiuscrouch/blt

The version here - http://foreverblender.blogspot.com/p/blender-themes.html - did not

A QUESTION:

==> Will / Could the Theme Manager / .bit file ever incorporate the KEY MAPS for the associated app? This would be very kool

Aidan

I’ve added darkpeach and Softblend to the themes list. They’re two interesting themes with some very different looks when compared to each other.

An update on the repository work: I’ve got a reply from Graphicall and they’ll think about adding themes support for the new graphicall.

aidanodr: adding keymaps could be an option, but I really have to talk to some of the core developers to see what ideas they have on themes. I’ll try to keep you all updated as things develop.

very cool themes guys!

i just noticed that if i click at one theme, then another then the previous one again it wont register. you can only click each theme once and then you have to re-open the list.

EDIT:
Also, i think keymaps should be separate (they’re fine as they are no?). i have no interest in switching keymaps if i try someones theme

Thanks for the add-on.

Thanks for the theme list Crouch. You think you could add thumbnails though?

There could be a very simple default scene setup with a small definition (640x480, 800X600 ?) to generate previews, and thumbnails.

This scene could show at least two objects , one selected (cube ?), with the other on edit mode (suzanne ?), also showing N and T panels.

What do you think ?
