Misdirection (THU Golden Ticket Challenge 2015 Entry)

Besides the lovely charachters, the whole image is beautiful, well lighted and shaded, and every fine detail is there to be looked at.
In a word, awesome!
Unlike many cool renders we are use to see around, what stands out here is that this image really tells a story, it just gives you the impression that is an actual frame taken out of a movie. And a good one!
It is probably the most “Pixar-esque” work I’ve seen made with Blender.
Bravo!

I like how the direction of the hair brings out the movement

nice, i like it too.

That, Is my nieces expression

<edit>

And looking at it again, That is about her default pose as well.

awesome … love it man … you just nail it down … keep it up :slight_smile: and many congratulations

Wow… that is just too cool… and the look on that little jungle girl’s face… LOL! I have some little female cousins that I have seen this exact look on before…
Classic work guy… absolutely Classic… all thumbs up!!!

Beautiful! Keep up a great work!

Beautiful !

Wow, I love how you can make the hair very smoothly like that!
And I think you did a very great job adding some mist into the picture.
Hope to see your next project soon.

Hello everyone. I finally got some time to open up the file again to make some screen grabs and stuff.

Here is the lighting setup:

This is what the composite nodes look like. Very messy. I didn’t know about the frame node back then:

This is what it looked like before compositing and color grading. Just the various layers combined into one image:

And this is an example of the texturing workflow. The shaders all share the same projected textures, so you can just apply any shader to any object without worrying about UVs:

Very nice!

Face expressions! Amazing!

OMFG THAT NODEMAP!! can you show a quick render of what it looks like without all the nodes?

@finalbarrage
The third image (the one that says color nodes muted) is the raw render. It just has the backplate, trees, characters and mist placed one on top of the other.

This is epic, I would love to see this animated! Great Job!

oh good thes notes so much, great work!

Wow, just WOW!! Really nice work!

The main character seems to be created at Pixar. Excellent work!

that node-map… pokerface
amazing piece of work :slight_smile:

just one thing bothers me.
that little fat boys body could have needed more work.
his chest area looks too flat. perhaps some manboobs would be fitting to make hil look lass flat :confused:
