It seem light distance and light energy are somehow intertwined in Blender 2.71. The distance is always read as 25 (using light.distance), and setting the distance will change the energy output of the lamp.
Can anyone else confirm this?
In the screenshot, setting the light distance changes light energy from 0.018… to 3.0

Yup, it’s for my light manager, which this version is just about finished. (The previous version had some issues on people with lower graphics-ram computers, this one solves it by libloading all the lights in at game start.)
Turns out this bug was only in 2.71. Using the latest build of 2.72 fixed it.
