Alien2

I put together a couple other images. One is a clean render of the sculpt. The other is the maps I used.

Awesome work  Well done

Thank you!

;)…yep…great work…absolutly deserve 5 star man

Looks like you put loads of effort in this. And it does look awesome! Keep on delivering this stuff!

Thank you, Mojza and downfall61.

wow hype. youre the man bra. I am amazed and impressed. I am going to be trying this for sure. I love how expertly you crafted the scene.

love the lighting, really nice work!

That is one UGLY mofo, haha. Looks bloody fantastic bro. I especially loved how the complimentary colored lighting works itself on those juicy details. The texturing feels complex (I’ve never attempted anything like this), and you definitely have good traditional painting skills. Another example why being good at drawing is always a good thing.

My only ‘opinion’ would be about the shoulder blade area and the start of the hands. For an alien who looks fairly bone till the bottom of his neck, the shoulders and chest have more meat in 'em, kinda making it off balance. But then again, it’s more about your design choice than a technical one so I really can’t complain. There’s no rule that it can’t be this way

You make me want to get off my comfort zone and start doing work that is a progressive indication of my ‘skills’; this is that inspiring. Someday, someday…

Thanks guys!

You guys should definitely give it a shot. There’s so many inspirational things out there! I got inspired by checking out creatures sculpts on zbrush forums, and by watching Roberto’s amazing sculpting timelapse videos (http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLGm5UAcc_qliyiBvAQxbM2OggiXHwwuGd).

Still so much more to learn, though.

@hype,
Great work on the sculpt, retopo, texturing, lighting & rendering, the whole 9…
Very well done :RocknRoll:
Congrats on top row

Cheers,
~Tung

Waow! Great!
Wish i could do as well with my aliens!

Are you permitted to post the reference images?

Really nice! I think the skin is a little bit to “shiny” or “wet”, but that is just a personal preference  Good work! Really like the eyes.

The model is great, but, to me, the materials feel a bit too much like plastic.
I’d try using some subsurface personally.

Anyway, great piece!

Great work, Sean! Love all the process pictures you’ve been posting.
I’ll add to some other voices in saying that the material could use some work.

Love it

Thanks everyone!

Yeah, I guess I could work on the shader one of these days. I could throw some fresnel falloff on the glossiness, add in some subtle SSS. Maybe I’ll get back to it sometime. I have a couple other ideas I think I may want to explore first!

Are you permitted to post the reference images?

I guess I could post the links, since all I did was google around for cool sculpts.

This was the main one I loved.

Here was another inspiration.

There were many others, but these were the main two that made me want to sculpt an alien.
Oh, and also the work of Kurt Papstien.

You clearly deserve 5 stars =)

That’s incredible, hype. I’m just getting started in my journey with Blender (discovered and downloaded it 3 weeks ago). I’m under the tutelage of folks like you. I love it.
