couldn’t resist to try Microno’s SSS shader on this, just the diffuse so far. cycles w Microno’s SSS shader.

Using booleans! very clever!
nice work!, did you use vertex paint?

filou.rod | Thanks. Yeah, the ears and the neck started off as a cylinder, then bolleaned to the bust. Especially with ears I find it a lot easier not to have to deal with surrounding geo while sculpting them.
Unfortunately I haven’t used vertex paint on this one. I still haven’t tried that in blender. And I didn’t have the time to really figure it out so I jumped into the environment I was comfortable in, 3dCoat.

I’ve tweaked the diffuse a bit and added a bump map. Started playing with hair.

I’ve bumped into a wall with hair and I’m hoping it is possible in blender and I just can’t figure it out. I’ve posted in the support section of the forum already, but I’m posting here as well in hopes I get more views here and a possible answer.

The way I’ve approached styling the hair for this character was using dynamics instead of combing the whole thing. This gets me only so far as I can’t realy edit it further.

Question: Is there a way in blender to ‘freeze’ a certain frame of a bake, in a way that I can actually go into ParticleMode and edit hair from there? Basically ‘Free Bake’, but keep the current frame of the dynamicSim hair.

The workflow would then be.

  • dynamicSim to get the initial relaxed hair
  • freeze bake
  • edit
  • another pass at dynamicSim to relax any issues created with the edit.
  • freeze bake

This is what I got from the dynamicSim

Really cool sketchbook man. Keep it coming!

i like your time lapses, very informative :stuck_out_tongue:

julperado, 0X-Gears | Thanks.

Started a new bust. This time I got to draw a concept of the idea before jumping into sculpting. I’m also capturing everything, so hopefully when I get it to a decent state I’ll upload the timelapse.

Concept

Dyntopo WiP. The eyes-tubes are still a seperate piece.

funny forms, i like that you captured the spirit of the drawing in sculpt. are you going to indicate the shoulders as in drawing to balance out the visual weights?

Thanks doris. It’s nice ot hear that you think I’ve got some of that spirit in the sculpt. The concept drawing was a crappy rough idea of the forms. The sculpt is loosely based on it, still developing the concept as I go.
The idea is to go for a final rendering of something close to what’s on the concept.

Here’s an update with some of the body roughed out.

Didn’t have much time to devote to this lately. Did a couple of sculpt tweaks and got it into Cycles to check out the forms there.
Everything uses Microno’s Redefined SSS shader. The sculpt is still a WiP and all the shaders are just a temp.
Should have more time in a week and be able to edit the timelapse videos of the progress so far and get it up on Vimeo.

Heh! I love this new one.
Cool looking creature!

Love those teeth! The character is coming along beautifully, can’t wait to watch the videos.

Btw, already answered in my thread, but, thank you! I’m very happy to have ‘lured’ you into using Blender, you’re a very talented dude.

Ace Dragon | I did get that shader off blendswap, couldn’t get it to work at the time. I’ll give it another go. Microno it is in the meantime.
AlinB | Thanks.
sick | Thanks on all the positive feedback! I have a feeling from your works that you are a fan of Jordu Schell? To me the teeth on this creature have a bit of a Schell look. That could be why it resonates with you.

Finally got around to getting the vids up on vimeo. Here’s where the WiP is:

Nice time lapse, your workflow it’s brilliant

Milk-…-Man | Thanks!

Got the time to get back to this. Did a bit of detail pass on the sculpt, then some 2d comp texturing concepts over the actual render. Just trying to get a sense of where to take it in terms of textures.

Thanks Ranquin, good to see you here as well! Looking forward to see more of your stuff.

Started the texturing. This now is a pure Cycles render.
