The Iridescences around the metal is called tempered metal its when you apply to much heat to it and the metal starts to become brittal or fragile and easy to break at low stresses
but if done right can make the metal stronger

its like trying to forge a sword if done right its strong and sturdy and can last forever
but done wrong well your a dead man with a broken sword

sorry about the double post guys happens to me every once in a while

THe technic is using a custom brush which looks like welds, than manually sculpt the areas where you want the welds. You than back these out into normal maps and possible mask/clipping masks. I then made a layered material with mask/clipping and the normal mapping. I just used 2 complete different metals with complete different textures thats why it looks that great i believe. PS this is not rendered with Cycles, i use Thea Render

I’ve attempted a weld joint by using the Array modifier. No variations, but you can sculpt this to make it variable.
