REALISITC FLARE COMPOSITING PACK (Available on Blender Market)

Now JJ Abrams can finally move to Blender(sorry, just had to;)!

You can use any pass you want for the Flare Node, Just think of it as a glare node, it will however not be as great, it calculates pixels that are above at-least the value ‘1.000’.

I didn’t add a threshold in the node but you can do it manually by adding a ‘mix node’ before the flare node’s input using the ‘subtract’ and a second input color of white at the value of ‘1.000’, now all you need to do is use the mix slider as a threshold.

But you can also just add spheres as sources of light, and you can put them on the locations similar to your the environment map.
You can also put in the a ‘mask’ for the ‘background’ and use the ‘image’ pass as a source, but it will be less controllable.

In short, the flare node is best using the ‘emit’ pass. The flare will work on other passes but it will be less effective.
