How to setup a HDRI to get sharp shadows ?

My scene is completely CG (except for the HDRi image). The floor is a plane with a glossy-sharp material, like a mirror. The sky is reflected on the floor. The dodecahedrons are made with a faked-caustic glass material explained in a cgcoockie tutorial.
If you want to use some objects inside an image or background you must separate your objects in several render layers, check transparent in Film panel and make some compositing.

Yeah, that’s what I did with the pool table scene above. It works well enough with a flat ground plane. Not sure how well it will do in a more complicated scene.

Hmm, I’m using CS6 as thats what my University has, so I’m not sure when the introduced painting in 32Bit?

Or you could plug the image into the strength of the background shader…

The third image is using a mix between the image and plain white for the strength input.
