Gooseberry cycles render times

Cycles deformation blur is definitely a performance hog for some reason. For comparison I rendered a shot of five human figures in motion with level 2 subdivision. The shader was a simple white diffuse BSDF and the whole thing was lit with one area light. in Cycles the render took over 30 minutes for sub HD resolution with deformation blur on. Appleseed, by comparison, took about 11 minutes when accounting for export time (the actual render time was only 3 minutes). Pretty big difference.
