Cinderella Castle and Main Street U.S.A.

castle is software or tools or application software, please tell me more about it I have listen a lot about, it how can I get them, tell me some useful sites in this regards.

Another update, the project got delayed a bit, but I am still working on it. Added the inner left wall windows, the inner left back small tower, the inner left fort tower, and the inner back tower. The fort tower is definitely the most inaccurate piece so far, but it manages to work.

Looks ok, missing detail though. I imagine your going to add more later on of course.

Interested to see what you do with the texturing as im a little bored with the modeling at the moment.

Understandable, as there is a lot to model, it’s going to take a long time :). But I am interested about the missing detail, anything in general I need to add?

I’m sure Otto is going to make your continued interest his priority…What a pointless comment. Bored? Ignore the thread…Looks ok? How insightful…Looks spectacular would be a more accurate assessment. Unless you’ve got a better looking castle in the works?

I for one am not bored. Enjoying watching the castle come together.

Yeah of course i agree with 3dmedieval. There is already of course alot of detail and imagine that things are only going to get more detailed with time. Will you be using Indigo for the renderer? I think moomoo is feeling a little jealous! I know i am.

Thank you 3dmedieval and FloorPlay for your responses, and moomoo, your comment about the amount of detail is noted. While textures can and will add the fine details eventually, what you are seeing now is what I think, and what is probably in reality, pretty much everything that is there. I haven’t been posting the reference photo’s I took, and closeup photos of Cinderella Castle are limited out there, so I will probably start posting sections of the photos I took for comparison for the people who are interested. As for right now I’ll post this if anyone wants to compare it to my previous update…

Right now I am not planning on using Indigo, I am going to try and keep this all in blender 2.5. If I end up not getting the results I want, I might move to Indigo, but more likely another free physically accurate renderer like Luxrender.

The original intent of this post though was to ask about the accuracy of blender’s grid. Does anyone know how accurate it is to snap thing to the grid? I am having a problem where if you zoom in enough, you can see that the mesh doesn’t line up with the grid…

While in that example it is not that severe, I’ve had it where in other projects, sometimes the grid itself would shift around (severely) when you wold pan the screen. Although I haven’t had that extreme of a problem in this project, it does make me concerned that there is some object that I don’t know of not lining up and causing problems. If anyone know’s, it would be great to find out.

Some side tests, materials are not final.

…an understatement to be sure…

current face count ? …is it scary?

I have compared the modeling to the real photos and can’t find anything out of place other than the smallest of things. The only one I can spot is that the flags are very stiff on the model. In the real world photos are much longer and wavy. But holy cow if that is all that is not perfect it shows how well you have done! Keep up the incredible work! BTW moomoo has 11 posts all but 2 are trying to stir up trouble in threads 1 was deleted by the moderators don’t listen to him.

Frank the Smith: The face count currently is at ~275,600 without any subsurf modifiers.
Jumtuv: Good spot. I was originally planning to do the cloth simulation as one of the last steps, but considering that that the flags won’t be changing much, I might do it sooner.

The odd thing I learned about the real Disney castle is that it employs artificial foreshortening - things get smaller as they get closer to the top, to increase the sense of scale. Not suggesting that you do that here - it only works when viewed from the ground. Lookin’ good!

Ah, I actually read about that somewhere, and that the castle is supposed to appear to be around 300 ft. when it is actually ~180 ft. In my model, I scaled the upper details by 0.8, and in some cases as much as 0.6. However the main structure remains at 180, and many other parts (in fact a lot) I did not alter.

WOW!

i wanted just to say that.

Thank you

Now for some more material and texture tests, mainly because I’m avoiding starting the back of the castle.
While I do have a large image of the castle bricks, it does not have a high enough resolution. I had to mess around with the bump maps in order to pull off an acceptable result. Another problem is that I had to make the texture seamless along the y axis. On the real castle, they employ the forced perspective on the bricks, you can see in the picture that they only get smaller as they go up.

In the render however, I ended up having large bricks up at the top sometimes, which can ruin the sense of scale. I do not think that it is a major detractor however. I also improved the roof’s bump/spec/diffuse maps.

Be sure to sell this when you are done on Turbosquid etc. You’ll make a few $$ for your effort! Looks great textured.

How now, moomoo? How now?

How now brown cow?
Mmm, well, its not bad.
I could much better!
