Blender Guru Competition - Futuristic Vehicles [Jim Morren]

Hi guys,

yeah, sorry you are all confused,

I’m striving here for a retro-bike which is modified in the future… (just wait till later, you’ll see)

I’m aiming for the bike to be part ‘near-future’ and part ‘future’, if that makes any sense?
I don’t want to go where the others are going towards, these weird ‘Tron’ like bikes, hope this clarifies some things,

sorry again for making you lot confused, hehe, that was not my intention.

@suboptimal

yeah I’m still working on the pistons, not all to happy about them myself…

Cheers,

Jim

well, to answer that let me ask a question, why are we still using the wheel?
it’s certainly out-dated… [there far better transportation means available]

I’m trying not to lose the ‘motor-cycle’ feeling with this bike, those chain-less, wheel-less, tron-like bikes don’t do it for me,
of course that is just my opinion,

Cheers,

J

You have a point - but it depends on the judge’s opinion - from his web-site:

Tips for Winning

Designing something from scratch can be daunting! But trust me that when you get started you’ll be surprised how easy and fun it is.

  • Keep it grounded in reality! If it looks too wild or outlandish the viewer won’t be able to relate to it.
  • Form follows function – That means the functionality of the vehicle should determine it’s design. “Beauty results from purity of function.”
  • Don’t add pointless doodads for the sake of it – have a purpose for everything. See above.
  • Gather reference from everywhere – nature, machinery, current vehicles, everything. Build a folder of images and draw from it.
  • Sketch before you blend! Design is central to this competition, so if you open blender before you put pen to paper, you can expect to fail.

Criteria for Judging

  • Practicality – “Could this vehicle actually function?”
  • Aesthetics – “Is it attractive?”
  • Realism - “Are the materials, textures, details and lighting convincing?”

Thanks, MichelWeber,

Though I don’t really care for winning, I just like the competition,

just added a bunch of simple shaders so I can get a feeling of where I want to go from this point onward.

These are just TEMPORARY materials, just so you guys know,

Great modelling. Now if you add something to imply that is it self driving…

One, I just want to say, holy crap that’s some cool modeling, and it looks great. Small critiques. The bottom of the chassi looks a little low and there’s no place to rest one’s feet. Also not sure about the exposed bullet-rig (not sure what you’d call that). But overall it looks pretty damn fantastic.

Hi,

it looks great. Imo, I don’t know if the gun is really useful. The overall design should work fine without it (and it becomes harder to turn the front wheel with it no ? :)).

Keep up the good work.

True… maybe I’ll leave the gun…

I’ll add a feet rest but as for the lowness of the chassis I will not make it higher, I purposely put it this low, if you look at these day’s aftermarket cars, they commonly have low body kits, I’m trying to create that atmosphere with this bike
