3d net?

Hey guys, Well I tried to make a rope in blender, I used the rope in blend swap and tried to add hooks to it to make it merge on the knots. hmm seems like a challenge for me. Know any other ways to do it?

Oh ill attach my failed attempt in blend file as well.

you could use an alpha texture + cloth modifier on a grid

+1 on using Cloth.
Your approach depends on how detailed you need it. Your sample .blend suggests you need a LOT of detail, in which case you’ll probably end up having to do a lot of it by hand. But if there’s a reasonably large distance, you can use cloth with an alpha channel, or use cloth along with hooks + curves + bevels to get the look you want.

Even if it isn’t animating, cloth generates a great look.

Here’s a sample .blend of a “procedural” geometry approach: net.blend (3.91 MB)

I would probably model one piece of the rope and then use an array modifier to duplicate it.Lattice could be used to define the shape.

Hmm I agree too. I was searching for unnecessary details which I feel good about having in my scene anyway

Thanks Ricky! that’s amazing, kudos to the guy who figured out an almost same way as 3dx max has its procedural topology feature.

Thanks guys! you’ve given me so much inspiration to work on!
