Greeble-like shapes generator ?

Can someone make a script that would take a model and place bunch of cubes/parallelepipeds (from a group, so that scattering models already have UV maps and whatnot) using original model’s volume as a guide, to get result similar to what you see on the image ?

Hoping to get something like that done in Blender and then bring it to Doom 3: http://www.button-masher.net/content.php?c=88

Hi motorsep,

Right, but it doesn’t end up looking anywhere similar to the image I posted.

you can use custom greeble and add cubes from group.

Right, but how do you control density/size/distribution of the greebles in/on the guide model ?

Since you are the maker of the add-on, could you please make an example that matches or rivals the sample image I posted? (you can just make a guide model using skin modifier, IMO, to have varied volume size in the mesh)

motorsep, hi, you might get a similar result using split solidify by zmj100. You might need some small tweaks & boolean after to clean up.
You can get that addon & more useful mesh tools in direct link here: https://github.com/meta-androcto/downloads/raw/master/AF_mesh_edit_tools.zip

You could probably make a brush with tablet pressure that determined the cube size and paint these things relatively easily. Also automatic triplanar mapping for good looking texturing, and because they are cubes, the texturing will fit perfectly. Erase brush decreases the size and removes a cube under a certain threshold.

Thanks, I’ll try.

What do you mean? I’ve never done ‘painting’ with objects in Blender

Something like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1s94q4Rz_BY

I tried greeblfx & you can create different sized cubes, add them to a group & control variation. & for painting objects, I’d recommend using Asset Sketcher:https://cgcookiemarkets.com/all-products/asset-sketcher-blender-addon/

Can’t you just use particles?
