Creating splatter decals with particles/fluid sim ?

Has anyone tried creating splatter/leakage decals (paint/blood/oil/etc.) using particles / fluid sim in Blender?

Any advice how should I go about doing that?

Thanks!

Have you looked into dynamic paint? That should work great for splatters and such…

I thought about it, but haven’t seen any good tutorials about it. Plus, shouldn’t it work in conjunction with particles/fluids anyway? If so, physics of it is what important.

Do you happen to know of any decent tutorials on dynamic paint and physics of particles/fluids (to produce proper splatter) ?

A basic overview of its functionality can be found here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PcWXFtnh2bk

You should check out the effects panel of the canvas (blender manual: https://www.blender.org/manual/physics/dynamic_paint/canvas.html#effects-panel), especially the “spread” factor will be helpful to produce realistic splatters.
I suggest you using a particle system as brush (because it is much more accurate than a fluid sim and additionally gives you more control). To use a particle system as brush you need to choose “particle system” as paint source in the brush settings.
