Posts: Image compression & quality

Hey guys : )
I’ve noticed for a long time that images do not display very well in forum posts, whether it’s finished works, WIPs or anything else.
You can notice a slight degradation in quality when viewing an image, however, when you click on it to view the full resolution version, no degradation is visible, which is good, but the first thing a viewer sees is the image before they click on it.

I maybe wrong but it’s just something I noticed, and I really want Blender and its website to go up up and away!!

PS: This problem isn’t visible with thumbnails : )

Blenderartists is not an image hosting site.
If your image excedes the image dimension limits it will get downsized.

If you want the ‘perfect’ image just include a link to the original image file at an external host.

you also have to remember that most people use the “lousy” image format *.jpg

it is called “lousy” because it tosses out INFORMATION ( into the trash can) to compress and ADDS IN!!! compression artifacts .

this causes a LOT of image degradation

then you resize this to make a thumbnail that is ALSO in jpg and that looks even worse .

I try to AVOID!!! using *.jpg as it is was “the black death”

if at all possible i use the LOSSLESS *.png format
