Hey anyone else heard of china's attempt at social eng-err, I mean Sesame credit?

What if I told you,

a country tried to make it so that if you do what the government wants you to do, you get rewards!
but if you don’t, well good luck getting a decent internet speed or finding a job

Is the article too long of a read?

There is a good video talking about this by extra credits

And you thought the US government was an “oppressive and greedy government that is corrupt”

No I don’t think the US goverment is “oppressive and greedy government that is corrupt” but I do think that China’s goverment is scared of it’s citizens if it needs to control how they interact with each other.

This system is a brilliant as it is vile. I mean, this is literally every socialist’s dream service. But this is way too political so I won’t go any further into it.

China’s been doing this sort of thing for almost a century now, they’re just making use of new buzzwords and technical concepts.

However, there are signs out there that their social and economic experiments may be starting to backfire and fall apart, so this may or may not actually amount to anything.

As for me, I have more than a little bit of healthy skepticism regarding this story. It tacitly assumes that Chinese citizens really are as “Internet infatuated” as Americans are. I quite frankly think that this is a tale that was cooked-up for American consumption.

Now though, I think China will soon be home to more internet users than there are people in the United States (or even in all of North America). Easy enough for them due to their massive population advantage.

Politics. Closed.
