Hi everyone, we’re Pigments and we’re a startup! We are working hard on fixing a broken printing industry in South East Asia by making it a lot easier to find print shops nearby, helping you to book those shops on our site and making sure that while you’re working with those shops, the process is butter smooth. All those things and more are incredibly difficult in many Asian countries, that’s why we are working on becoming the airbnb for print shops. (Just like airbnb or uber this also works in other first world countries but in Asia it’s solving a big problem, in first world countries it’s an added convenience)

Transparency first so I don’t waste any of your time. Skip this at first if you wanna know the cool stuff first.
We’re a startup, we went through a startup accelerator, we have an MVP online but we’re pre-revenue. We cannot pay anyone right now.

There are only two ways of compensation:

  • Co-Founder status with large chunks of equity involved based on a vesting period (Based on effort put into the business, each year your equity/share of the company increases incrementally until an agreed period, generally 3-4 years. So first year might be 5% equity, 2nd 10%, etc. until 20% for example. Vesting however means, if say during the first year you end up performing terribly, you might not get any equity at all. It’s a common practice at startups, a measure to protect yourself from the common problem of bad co-founders.
  • Normal team member with an agreement of receiving low amounts of equity and/or compensate with money for no payment once there’s enough money for it. Good news is: For a startup we’re not too early stage anymore. We have a product out there that’s being test driven right now. That’s months ahead of research and development that would be on top of any startup you would join during the founding month. We might also be able to pay very low amounts of salary based on how the revenue in the first months will be.

We have just launched a MVP, (Minimum Viable Product) a basic website that works as a directory of print shops, with shops available in Singapore, Bangkok and Makati (Philippines). We are working hard on expanding and improving the list in those three countries in the upcoming weeks and intend to launch individual store pages for each shop before the end of the first week of December, so customers can book them through us. That means, we intend to have our first revenue this year.

You can see a work in progress of how a barebones shop might look like here: Visit a sample shop page (probably needs to be reloaded once)

We are currently two people, we’ve just launched the site, we’ve launched a Friends, Family & Fools Fundraiser, which we intend to advertise heavily next week and most importantly why I am posting here right now: We are expanding the team :)!

For more info on our plans for Pigments, you can read it on our Indiegogo crowdfunding campaign site.

We are looking for a sales/customer support person, a technical co-founder who will focus on the backend and a little frontend (meteor+polymer) and most importantly, we’re looking for:

Job description 3D artist/design generalist

We are looking for a 3D artist that can create several types of renderings/content for us:

  • 3D animations like these for our tutorial knowledge sites: http://www.apps.ua/en , https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yi2Aw-3mx4U (essentially, we will create a lot of animations explaining printing concepts)
  • Real-time 3D graphics like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9-n12ZH5O6k (which will be displayed in the browser, hopefully with UE4 once feasible with lower bandwidths)
  • Photo realistic still renderings for our entire product catalog
  • Preferably you have at least a basic design background, so you can regularly research great print/design related stuff on the internet to share and write about for our blog.

What are the perks of working for us?

  • In case you happen to live/work with us in Makati City, you’ll have an office at one of the coolest co-working spaces in Metro Manila, managed by Brainsparks, one of the few incubators/VCs in Metro Manila. This means mentorship from Brainsparks is pretty much included for free. This also means generally free access to events held at BITSPACE, which ranges from startup talks, to design/coding talks/meetups/workshops, to just jamming to some music or currently attending Star Wars movie nights ;P.
  • Again, if you work with us, you will have access to a Space Pilot Pro. Take it home with you, do whatever you want with it, just have fun with it.
  • If we end up going down the Cycles rendered route vs using Unreal Engine, you will definitely have access to a Render.St subscription, that you can use for our own but also your personal projects.
  • The chance to work on cool short films for if you think about it lame B2B startup. Meaning: We’re making printing sexy!
  • A company culture that embraces responsible freedom. You get to choose from where and how you want to work as long as you deliver the work.

By the way, we do not mind remote work, it just requires discipline from you to use all our SaaS project management tools like trello and slack regularly. For an in-depth read on why freedom in our company culture is important, read this medium article.
