Gaps in Fur

I’m rendering a rigged character and, for some reason, the character’s fur has some gaps in it.

How can I fix this?

check ‘use modifier stack’ checkbox.

I’ve made all of the changes you suggested and now, the holes are in different places, but they’re still there.

Can You post a simplified blend.

Sure. Here: http://www.pasteall.org/blend/39306

Overall, and in a general sense, you should focus – in the future – on using good topology, and working to create mostly manifold or connected meshes, rather than a bunch of disconnected ones. That said, what you have will work more or less.

What has happened is that you have combed the hairs into the mesh. Quick fix:
Select Sphere.005 (you should rename this to ‘Mouse’ or something.

  1. free edit,in the particle system
  2. switch to particle edit mode
  3. check the checkbox on the tools panel ‘Children’ to show all the child hairs.
  4. make sure ‘deflect emitter is checked’ and increase the value to > .95 this forces the tips of the hairs higher as you comb and prevents you from combing into the mesh.

Cool Mouse!

Ah! I didn’t even know about this option. That pretty much cleared up my issue!

Thanks!
