Question on normal maps

Using a normal map for wrinkles on a fabric. The material has a diffuse node and glossy node going into a mix node. A layer weight node is then plugged into the factor of the mix node.

When integrating a normal map into material I know that you connect the normal map into both the diffuse and glossy normal sockets…

My question is, should you also connect the normal map into the layer weight vector socket?

Plugging the normal information into the layer weight node’s normal socket will cause the fresnal effect to follow the bump map (which will be more realistic).

One other question on normal maps and cycles if you or anyone else knows … every time I seem to use a normal map, the material preview window gets messed up. the material goes all black for some reason. It only seems to occur when I use normal maps. Does anyone else have this problem?

Find the option in the image texture node that says ‘color data’, click on it and change the type to ‘non color data’.
