Loop cut solely on your selected face(s)

Hello,

i was wondering how i would go about making vertical loop cuts solely on your selected faces (two, in my case).

In the image below you can see how i have two faces selected (or atleast one, the other one is barely visible), and i’m trying to loop cut. However, the loop cuts vertically throughout the entire object, which is what i don’t intend to do.
Is there a way to make it loop cut exclusively through my selected faces and, if that’s not possible, are there any alternatives?

Thanks in advance,
Sounas

Select edges and W / Subdivide.
Select edge and G G to then edge slide if you want to move the new edge

Hmm, well i’m trying to cut the active face into two parts. Subdividing would give me 4

Visuals for Richard’s answer and also shows knife tool

Ah yes, i think i misread and selected the face instead of the edges on its side. It works now, thanks!
