Hairs and skin exercise

Hello,

I’m Daniel.
Comming to Blender via Gmax.

And learning every day…

There, I’ve focused on skin and hairs.

I’ve an old rig that why I’ve to stay “low” on the complexity of my scenes.
Then, the background is only a picture.
On my system it’s the usuable limit.

Hope to be at the level of “focused critiques”.

Your advice will be welcome on textures, lights, and composition.

Thank’s in advance.

Daniel

texture:
Not sure what you want to use it for, but if your intention is a photorealistic rencer
then I would do the following:

  • Use a bit SSS and translucancy in the shader.
  • Use cycles.
  • I think the roughness of the glossy is nice, but
maybe some parts of the face could have sharper gloss.
  • Some parts of the skin could use some more pories.
  • lipstick at the bottom is a bit sharp edged/
  • I find the hair beautifull but could use some more
    translucancy , not transparancy.
  • Color of the skin is quite tan, maybe to dark. or saturated
    light:
  • Looks good to me; I still see details in the shadows.
but I miss the higlights. ( missing high levels).
  • Light is comming from a good direction I think.

composition:

  • Looks very nice to me. I like the angle.

Others:
I see she is crying, but the facial expression looks more like
…eh not crying.

The model looks good, but the lighting looks really dull. I think you might want to try increasing the brightness of your light source

My first thought was she needs a ‘pouty lip’… probably a little off centre (just to break the symmetry of it), or maybe just a furrowed brow?

There is definitely potential there. Human skin is one of the hardest things to pull off. We all see it every day, and we know how it looks (even if we don’t know why). I agree that translucency and SSS would help a lot, as would toning down the lower lip (it doesn’t seem to fit the rest of the face to me), but a hell of a lot better than my first go.

You may want to consider one of those “less is more” scenarios.
