Best addon for mechanical gears

Hi,

I’m looking for a good addon in blender that would allow me to make mechanical (3D printable) gears with enough precision to allow them to work in real life.

Does anyone know of a good addon that would allow me to create that? If that isn’t possible, then a recommendation for a free CAD program that could do the same would be nice.

Have you enable in the User Preference > Addons > Add Mesh > Extra Objects ?
You find a Gear Object then under Add > Mesh > Gears [CTRL+A]

I have enabled that. It is more suited for artistic use, as real gears have a lot of parameters that aren’t shown in that specific addon.
I found blender mechanical gears (http://www.selleri.org/Blender/scripts/text.html) but its old and I’m not sure if it would work.

Also what I really need is some way of modifying the gear mesh in a radially symmetrical manner so I can change the diameter of the actual gears while keeping the teeth more or less the same length.

This is a great program for making spur gears. how do I use the gears in a blender program in a svg type file. I am also looking to fing a similar program to generate bevel gears, rack and pinion type gears to use in blender

You can import the SVG (File>Import>SVG) and then extrude it. You might have to enable a plugin to allow SVG import

This was the best Gear making tool for blender.

You can create any Professional gears in seconds.

IT’s a bit old so it may take some messing around to get it working on newer versions of blender its but well worth the trouble once working.

This looks great.

I installed on v2.79 > File > User Preferences… > Add-ons > Install Add-on from File… > GearGenMaster.zip > ticked Add mesh: GearGenMaster > exit > Add > Mesh > GearGenMaster > Add Rack > Select object created by GearGenMaster! > message disappears after 2 seconds and no object?

I then installed on v2.79 > File > User Preferences… > Add-ons > Install Add-on from File… > GearGeMaster-master.zip > ticked Add mesh: GearGenMaster > exit > Add > Mesh > GearGenMaster (there’s 2 GearGenMasters there now) > Add Rack > Select object created by GearGenMaster! > message disappears after 2 seconds and no object?

I rebooted Blender, however same issue?

Note there is an updated video and download from GitHub rather than the old link to the Google Drive.

Ok, working now after removing the directories: /home/userName/.config/blender/2.79/scripts/addons/GearGenMaster and
/home/userName/.config/blender/2.79/scripts/addons/GearGenMaster-master.

Then reinstalled both files…GearGenMaster.zip and GearGenMaster-master.zip.

Deleted Blender’s automatic Cube > added Rack or Gear > working!

It appears only 1 object is allowed in the viewport at a time. A rack or a pinion, not both.

Only issue is, the Blender header bar now shows both Add > Mesh > GearGenMaster. One would be more aesthetic.

Sorry to say, however the Add-on is buggy.
I created the herringbone gear, however no option for a herringbone rack?
Also, unsure how to add the same angle on the rack as the herringbone gear of 45 degrees. The rack only has Skewness in x millimetres. This is tricky. I could add a 2nd rack, but the Add-on only allows 1 object.

I’ve decided to try this for a rack and pinion and this at 8:42 to make a herringbone rack and pinion.
