Blender crashes when selecting meshes

Hey guys, I am new here, though I already use Blender since more than 1 year now, so I have some experience with it now.
I ran into an issue now: I am working on a pretty detailed model of the US Mercury Atlas rocket, and ran into this issue/bug (?):
When selecting a detailed mesh of the scene, Blender just disappeares, without any error report, it just goes away. Here are some images of my model:

When I select the low-poly mesh “Fuel Tank”, no problem, all fine. Then, when I select the higher-poly model “Skirt” for example, or Skirt_Stripes (Don’t kill me for my naming, please! :D), Blender disappeares.
It’s strange enough that Blender gives no error message, but what’s really confusing is that I actually made a model which is even more detailed and has even more verts, and everything is just fine!

I am running on a Lenovo THinkpad E531, Windows 7 64bit Intel Core i5 CPU @ 2,6GHz, 12GB RAM, Intel HD Graphics 4000
Blender is version 2.76 release candidate 3, and I also had this issue on an earlier version.

Does anybody know what I should do?

If you hadn’t done already, try running blender from a terminal using option --debug, and tell us what does it say when it crashes.

It says “Error: EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION”.

Well, not very informative =(. Does it say anything else?

In any case, try importing the offending object into a clean file, it often solves the problem.
