How do I fix a collapsing geometry on rig

so here is my issue.
character does splits

Butt collapses
bends the knee

knee collapses
shoulder wrists hands etc

so i am not sure what to do
i did find this http://www.cgmasters.net/training-dvds/character-creation-rigging/ but as it is 60 bucks and playing around with their figure i found some deformation issues, i am hesitant to invest in a product that i am not sure will help

Good deformations need: good topology, good weight painting, corrective shape keys, some trickery like using the Corrective Smooth modifier at the appropriate factor and repeat values, as well as rig controls that allow you to squash and stretch muscles as they would in real life.

Thick characters are harder to skin then thin characters because thick characters have a greater chance for mesh intersections and therefore need more corrective shapes and other trickery to fix those issues.

My advice is brush up your skills on a more reasonably proportioned character. Also, research all of the items I listed above. I put them in order of importance since one depends on the other in most cases.

Good luck!
