seems like we have an abundance of good entries this week. tough choice.
you guys really dont like dark themes… i thought i had this one.
It’s a nice render final and a solid entry. Maybe just a little too perfect/CGish. Hard to say what people will respond to. I’ve had entries I thought were clear winners and they didn’t get a single vote. Other times I honestly thought my entry was crap and it did well. There is something about the levels and translucency on 3dguru’s grapes that is very pleasing and draws the viewer into wanting to be there.
I could taste grapes when I was looking at 3dguru’s render He got my vote!
The chest render is very good, but I love the other one and I also kinda felt like the chest was way too big. Maybe that’s just an illusion though.
Huh. Grapes or a rodent. Well they were tied when I voted and broke the tie. For now anyway.
I won last week’s contest, so my entry is non-competing. Please don’t vote for it.
well there you go final, you’re out of the (no vote / I voted for myself ) group it could have been leading, but this week was about hard choices. look at that dancing bun
You have a really nice entry this finalbarrage, I would say your best entry to date. Nothing to be worried about if you don’t win. The level of competition this week is above par. As photox said it’s always a guessing game as to what will attract voters each week. Sometimes it’s the technical quality of the render, such as in 3Dnotguru’s entry, or the subject matter such as in Helge’s, or Mswan’s humorous interpretations.
I was probably about 15 WEC’s before I ever got my first vote, and about 30 before I ever won one. I have won 3 out of about 90 WEC entries. I’m sure you will get a win soon.
I’m glad Mswan did the Bun Dance. I had the same thought but couldn’t get an entry done, so I was hoping someone would see it the way I did. My vision was for some hot dog buns on one side of a gym (boys) and hamburger buns on the other (girls) a bit Fruedian maybe, like a 1950’s high school dance.
I really liked photox’s entry, it would have garnered my voted if it was competing, but I went for Helge’s, once again, extremely creative take on the subject.
Great entries all, and I look forward to competing again around November when I finish my current project.
i won once where i did not expect it seems like the scale is throwing many people off. two commented that the chest is too big.
The scale is off for a realistic chest. I figured it was on purpose, after all what is more abundant than a chest gold? A really, really big chest of gold. . Anyways, didn’t realize you had a win already. Gratz on that.
Quick question: WHY did you think you had this one?
I would think so too if my render was that awesome, also, why are all our images missing?
edit: seems like even the few that were up are now missing, did someone doing scheduled cleanup mess up?
i just felt like i had enough details and made it look so close to CGI. it is the entry that im most happy with that i’ve done for WEC. i just felt like i had the win. havent really felt it before other than with the “hard to overlook” entry but there where SOOO good entries that week witch kinda killed it.
really good entries now too, i just still felt like i had it. i thought maybe helge would strike a win but when i wrote that comment helge didnt even have 1 vote, the grapes had 4 and i had 0. witch surpriced me a lot.
Hello, ver ynice entries, when I saw the theme I thought: “Ladies and gentleman grab your particles systems and array mods!”.
I think 3d not guru grapes are amazing, but for the idea and personal taste, I vote for finalbarrage.
@finalbarrage: I just think you can light night scened a little blueish and maybe a bit more light to make it better, but I liked it a lot. Maybe a render closer to the chest could improve the same render. Just an amateurs opinion.
These couple of weeks I will not be able to participate (maybe no one cares hehe), but I will try to vote evrery week.
Great work everybody.
would you say this is better then?
finalbarrage it just comes down to what criteria people are basing their vote on, or sometimes just whatever catches their eye, or makes them laugh. A few weeks ago, I did a fully sculpted retopo’d texture painted humanoid ( vampire baby ) including hands, clothes, and some post processing. It came out looking pretty good too, if I do say so myself. I was fairly certain it would win, but alas, it got only one vote. This happens all the time. There’s no science to it. It just comes down to the whim of the voter.
finalbarrage, I voted for you because I liked it the most, and it is only a humble small suggestion about the light, I am not a professional. I meant something like this:

But I know the WEC is hard because of timing. Great entry in many ways.
And… The winner of Weekend Challenge 639 with over 32% of the votes… is… Helge!
