Deterministic Operations Research/Linear programming and Blender

I am trying to construct a project that would allow me to combine my class studies and blender. I’m taking a class on optimization (although really it is about Operations Research and linear programming and other algorithms about optimizations) and want to know how to apply it to blender. I’m thinking about optimizing render times, or other time consuming operations in blender. I also thought about light scattering and applying my research to that. Does anyone have any resources on more of the technical side of blender? Like how light is handled, render is handled and other operations. Also if it doesn’t belong in this thread let me know and direct me to where it belongs.
