Dyntopo: masking specific verts for hybrid hardsurface/organic model

Hello Fellow Blendies,

I need some dyntopo hard surface help.

Basically I want to keep a sharp “hard surface” edge while sculpting the rest of an organic shape with Dyntopo.

I want to mask JUST the verts along a sharp edge so they are not moved or deleted but i want the adjacent verts to follow dyntopo.

Masking the verts with lasso also selects adjacent and doesn’t seem to protect when Dyntopo is enabled.

the reason I am not just sculpting and then retopo is that I like the random shapes created by Dyntopo. (this will be a lowpoly style character) the random tris created by dyntopo look better than manual ones for some reason.

Link to an screen that should illustrate what I am shooting for.

In edit mode select the faces you want to sculpt
Invert the selection (Ctrl+I)
Hide the selection (H)
Go to sculpt mode and sculpt
Unhide mesh (Alt+H)

hi this works in normal sculpt mode but not with dyntopo active. I need the verts to stay exactly where they are while i dynsculpt the verts around it.

The best solution I am coming up with is modeling the hard surface stuff separately and decimating the organic stuff with dyntopo and doing good ol’fashioned retopo on the hard surface. :frowning:
