need help

ive been using maya for a long time
but now adays trying to learn blender abit

  1. how do i do this in blender?

moving the pivot point of a mesh to a vertex or
center

also in the uv map how do i move a uv vertex point
to snap to another vertex point

  1. in maya theres a smooth uv option which i use
a bit often in maya cant seem to find blender’s equivalent

  2. select shell border… i cant seem to find blender’s equivalent

  3. this one is what is giving a bit of a trouble in blender

in maya or max to assign a shader/material i simply drag and drop
in blender i can only seem to use only one shader/material for the entire scene

  1. how do i know if the normal are reversed in blender?

in maya you can tell if its red that means the normal is reversed in the uv editor

but blender i cant tell ><

also if in case normals is reversed how do i reverse the normals?

I’ll take it from bottom to top, and answer your other questions in consecutive posts: for normal:
ctrl N to calculate outside, and Shift Ctrl N to calculate inside.
to see the direction they are facing, hit N key to get to your properties panel, and go to mesh display options…
(edit) and to flip them, mesh menu >> normal >> flip

border select: B key or ctrl B
snap UV vertex to another: Alt M
smooth UV: smooth selected UVs ( add-on )
snap origin to vertex: snap 3D cursor to selection in edit mode ( shift S ) >> go to origin menu on tool shelf ( the panel on the left ) snap origin to 3D cursor.
(edit) also you can change your pivot options on the main header of your 3D window.

2 more things how about when moving around a mesh…
basically snapping to another vertex while moving it around

and not sure whats the proper term for this

but basically in maya when i hold on to shift while moving uv vertex it keeps it as a 90 degree angle
well in case need to move uv vertex, edges or shells around in a perfectly straight angle/line

if you use the middle mouse button instead of the left mouse button, your movement will be constrained to x or y axis
