Rigging multiple meshes ok?

I have a humanoid ready to rig but the body parts such as arms, head, and legs are all separate meshes.
Could this have any undesirable outcomes compared to having at all as one mesh?

If you are good at painting weight, it should work properly, it would be the same if it was in the same mesh but with the vertex not attached together.
At the same time, it is easy to merge meshes together, and you can even do it after you painted the weights! So for that, it really is as you want!

Separate meshes for body parts is, generally, NOT advisable, why have you done it this way? I think you will find life much easier if you keep a character’s parts all in the same object. To merge objects together, select them all, the one you want to use as the merged item should be the last one selected, then key CTRL+J. You may find you need to clean up the vertices along the joints, depending how good your modelling was, there are ways to do this, just ask here if you have a dis-jointed mess once you have merged the meshes.

Cheers, Clock.
