Train | Animation

Hi,

This is my first animation ever! It was just a test so it wasn’t perfect and it was the first, but i hope you could give me some feedback about it! :slight_smile:

Not bad for a start.

Smoke doesn’t quite move like that, as it’s natural for it to get sucked down a bit by the movement of the train. I’d suggest having a path (bezier) attached to the train for the smoke clouds to follow. It’s how I did it in

. The volume material for the smoke uses generated coordinates, so that’s why it doesn’t look like it’s exactly the same for each puff although the mesh defining the volume is. (Did it that way because smoke sim is way too slow on my computer.) Smoke location on the path is repeated by a cyclic F-curve modifier, so I only do one single sequence of the puff following the path, and the smoke’s puff size is controlled by the path’s vertex radius.

Rigging a train to follow a curve or with wheels that would show rotation is even more complex, so it’s probably not something to worry about at the moment.
