split hair particle systems into layers

Is there a way to take multiple particle hair system on one object and tell Blender to render it on a specific layer?

Not sure if the post belongs here.

But, if you could take one object, say a hair cap, and put for example, 4 particle system on it for hair, then tell Blender to render each particle system on a different layer, then you would be able to split up the memory so it might fit into your GPU and use the render layers and compositor to put it back together.

I can do this by duplicating the object on different layers and rendering out just one particle system at a time by switching the particle render systems on and off. However, then you have multiple objects all doing the same thing. Hard to get your hair scalp rigged this way. It would be nice to simply have one object and tell the particle system to render each particle system on different layers. Now you can split up your particle system memory and make your GPU happy.

Going crazy with hair!
