Creating dynamic hair using a particle system in Blender 2.75A

Hello, everyone. I am working on building a character fully rigged with dynamic hair and everything. However, I have noticed that I can’t seem to find a lot of really informative tutorials out there on how to properly set up the hair particle system. The biggest problem is hair falling through the scalp. I created a separate scalp mesh. Can anyone recommend some good tutorials? I have attached the blend file for my character. Please feel free to let me know how I can improve it.

Have you set the scalp mesh up as a collision object in the physics panel?
