Reverse explosion / particle system

Hi,

i am struggling with making reverse explosion effect (object assembled from shrapnels). i cannot find any way how to reverse the particle system animation (made using explode modifier). I know i can reverse video but animation is more complex and cannot reverse it whole. Please help

No ideas? Cannot believe this cannot be somehow done.

Perhaps you can use a build modifier and set it to reversed?

I’m not aware of a method using the explode modifier but you can make a great effect using the cell fracture addon.

First fracture your object as you want.
Add rigid body physics to your fractured object.
Tick the collision margin in the rigid body physics and increase the number below to increase the strength of the explosion.
In the physics panel on the left click copy from active to apply rgid body physics to every one of the fractured parts. (Make sure all the parts of the model are selected and that the part with physics is the active object before you copy from active.)
Now bake the physics simulation.
Go to the dopesheet editor and with all the keyframes selected type s x -1.
Move the keyframes to the desired position and you’re done.
