How good computer do you need for actual work?

Hi,

My desktop is not so good, I’m going to upgrade it but I don’t know how much should I invest. I don’t have big budget.

Let’s say I wanna make an animation: using five different particle simulations, using cycles renderer, full lightning and reflection, animating about 1km x 1km of world.

…how good computer do I need to do this with blender?

right now mine is:
fx8300
radeon 7770
16gb ram

As good a one as you are prepared to pay for. You could get a lower spec (cheap system) and take longer to make the animation or higher spec (tons of money) and take less time to make the animation. We don’t know how much time is important to you and the animation limits you have stated are so vague no-one can give to a specific answer.

This could mean a million different things !

Set your budget and that is the limiting factor on the system you get
