Newbie lighting question

Hi all.

I’ve been using blender as a hobby for a cpl years now, but i wouldnt exactly call myself an expert. I’d like to set myself a project to get back into it, and improve my skills…

I’d like to tackle a project like this (with animations too), but my first question would be, how would one achieve such flat “cartoon” (for lack of a better word) lighting?

Thanks in advance,

Sticks

With Cycles: single Sun lamp, orto camera, solid color diffuse materials except reflective ones like the monitor glass.

EDIT: non-pitch black environment to get “lighter” shadows also is useful.

If you want more control over your cartoon look, like outlines or how many shading steps your models have you should look into Blenders Freestyle rendering System.

Thanks guys, i appreciate the pointers…
