Simple lanscape?

Hi,I started learning blender about two weaks ago… my problem is that I want to make pictures or animations with a low quality, because I think if you make a high quality picture or animation it needs much more time and much more training than if you just do something low, but if its not biggest shit (like Google -> Pictures -> “Blender comic landscape” first three pictures) I think it can look nice too  (like that: http://forums.toucharcade.com/showthread.php?t=176710 (Just any random picture I found)). So my question is: Where can I find tutorials for that simple style? I searched for about an hour and I just found tutorials for very bad landscapes or very awesome lancapes  Objects and characters are mostly very good too… but I could find some tutorials that are the style I want ^^I hope you can understand what I want to say^^

Look into “low poly” work:

Yeah, PigArt has some very good renders of low poly models, i think he also made a free pack of low models, check it out.

as for the terrain ( landscape)
there is a nice plugin called " ant "
http://wiki.blender.org/index.php/Extensions:2.6/Py/Scripts/Add_Mesh/ANT_Landscape
from last year

Thanks all of you  I already found low poly stuff, but I always thought it looks a bit bad… but I think the landscape has many corners… if corner is the right word for that^^ I think you know what I mean… all those vertices are a point and it goes straight to the other vertices… or is there an potion to put that a bit down? Some more fluently modeled landscape would be nice I think… I hope you understand that xDThe ant plugin for landscape is nice if you dont want a specific landscape… its more for randomized landscapes… I have an original 2D picture of an island I wanted to make, but it was very hard to find seeds for a specific island…

if a real island
there should be real topographic data
the STRM or GMTED2010 or ASTOR
or lidar data

but if all one has is a photo
Shape from Shade
could work ? maybe ?

to make a 32 bit floating point topographic height map

I dont really understand what you mean? The Island is not a real one. Do you mean doing with the ant landscape generator ? I dont think so, right?
I think I am trying atm to much and I should do some easier things again, and then slowly more… maybe more like low poly houses or something like that first, and then doing something like landscape… I think it’s very hard to find a way how to learn Blender well, because there is no universal way or something. No book you can work trough… nothing like that… you have to choose yourself what you do next, and I always want to do more than I can atm I think ^^

multidisciplinary
blender
gimp
octave ( clone of Matlab)
and so on

"shape from shade "
an archaic but never really SOLVED problem in computer vision
an example with a drawing ( one that IS correctly shaded)
the southpole of Arrakis from DUNE
http://feyd.rautha.free.fr/Dune/Arrakis%20map%201.jpg
cleaned up a bit and ran through a program to figure out the height of things from the shading
you get this ( still needs work , just a quick example)
a height map

now for your area( your image of a island ) this 1024x1024 px image would be a bit big
but a small 128x128 image
" imported as a plane "
then added a displacement map

would make a good area
