I'm coming to a point in my life where I'm about ready to branch off and get my own little vfx / cg team together. I'm not losing much sleep over technical, artistic or logistical issues. What I'm worried about most is getting clients. I could really use some pointers in this department.
I've been in the business long enough to know how to put together a good demo reel, what to consider in a website, which programs to use for this type of work(for the most part) and how to stay organized and consistent but I have very very little experience acquiring clients. It's the business side of this business that's worrisome.
I would love some advice on the subject. Where do you find your clients? How do you go about approaching potential clients? Are you cold-calling? I wish it was as easy as knocking on a door and trying to sell the latest in vacuum-cleaner technology but quiet sure it is not.
