How to emulate "hemi" light in cycles?

I’m dissapointed that theres no hemi light in cycles, but i’ll bet theres some kind of substitute technique to globally increase the light level. Can anyone help?

Basically I have one light in the scene, but need some control over the level of dark areas and am looking for something that will provide an illumination boost to all surfaces, without shadows of any kind.

A sun lamp with size 2.5 and strength 5 should be very close to the hemi lamp, and the shadows can be disabled by ticking off ‘cast shadow’.

use something in the world tab? like a color or sky

or build a giant half sphere and give it a emission material
