Lightning in a container: how to in Cycles?

… Randomly-generated ‘lightning’ strands within a container that illuminates the environment.

Big Job.

Is this a job for a lightning particles system, or is there a materials/emission solution where a noise procedural can be used?

I have had great success with the object_laplace_lightning addon. It is in the standard Blender (under Testing).

Er, not under the Mac version of 2.74 it isn’t…
