Yeah do you mean textures? Well then that could be easily done with texturing.
I was meaning about textures on a surface and adding a overlay with dirt or something…
Just add a tileable (or not) dirt or grunge texture - there are many out there, and set the blend mode to “Overlay” or Multiply". Not sure how it works in cycles, but the blend modes are the same. Generally speaking, however you do it, make it your last texture in the stack and set it to one of those blend modes on “color”. Then adjust your color setting as you like.
I can’t link to the grunge area, because though CGtextures is a great place to get textures, they are using 1973 internet I-frame technology.
Just click on grunge. Multiply or overlay. Adjsut yer color. Kaboom. Insta-filth.
