Blender "Transfer Weights" Replacement

Blender had a very useful “Transfer Weights” feature up to 2.73.

It appears that this was replaced in 2.74 with “Transfer Mesh Data”, but I have not been able to replicate the results of the former with the latter (Data Type = Vertex Groups, Vertex Mapping = Nearest). I also find it less convenient and the workflow is backwards (select target, then source).

Is this still work-in-progress?

Any chance of equipping Blender 2.74 with the old “Transfer Weights” feature?

I grepped the scripts folder, but only found references to “object.vertex_group_transfer_weight” which seems to be a built-in feature and not a python script.

Transfer weights is the new way of doing this, and it’s likely not going anywhere. It is still a work in progress though (no shape key transfer yet, for example). Bastien is still working on it.

Make sure you’re clicking either vertex weights or bevel weights in the top left and then hitting the transfer data button in the bottom right of the modifier.

interesting…

anynews on this?
