China to install 3D printers in all its 400,000-plus primary schools

i wish all of the elementary schools use blender

A very nice thought, though XYZ’s printers are infamous for having poor build quality and a locked-down firmware which restricts the use of non-XYZ filament.

At least they are acting on rising development of technical skills… while rest of the world will have ‘ripe idiots’ coming out of primary schools in next 10 years. Ha. In primary schools over EU, pupils barely know what math is good for… an apple is a machine. Cows are violet in color and everyone else is a competitive enemy. Nation-tradition-money is the holy class trinity.
Such a lovely ‘capital’ trend.
So much for community/social awareness.

Too wish for FOSS in primary schools to be obligatory.

Yes, but surely, wen you are making a product that is going to be in the number of 400,000 they would decrease the prices of it (due to huge commercialisation) and improved quality…

Or maybe it a chance that they secure a market monopoly…
But imagine, what if all of them used blender as modeling software foe their printers? I mean its free! If this is true, I really hope blender would grasp this opportunity to break through

In general, school districts will get what is cheap and passable in terms of technology because they have to buy large quantities of the item. I doubt that the Chinese kids will be making real complex parts for all of the cheap technology products they can buy all across their country (more like learning how to use a printer and perhaps print a toy or something).

When I was in school, it was a new thing for classrooms to get banks of computers, and they were usually lower-end machines (you would not have expected to use them for any serious productions).

I learned autoCad on school computers,
they were decent, but back then the materials render was crap.

At least they are acting on rising development of technical skills… while rest of the world will have ‘ripe idiots’ coming out of primary schools in next 10 years.

Well, I have to wonder here. Is a degree in engineering the only one worth having or maybe computer science. So responding to China I take it a liberal arts degree is a waste of time now. How very sad.

Also, I was not aware our German Blender buddies were living in a country where math is suddenly passé. And, yes at seventy six I can use the word passé. You do it and it might be mistaken for gay.

And, by the way you are on a art forum. Could there be a more wasteful use of college resources then that. Whoa Blender buddy less back the damn truck up here.

I also share your concern about the Chinese eating our lunch. And, that includes our European neighbors. But, they are going to do what they do best. And, yes that happens to be mathematics. And, they can throw a million people at a problem. Or, for that matter a million people at producing some cheap shit which shows up in Walmart.

Your comment brings to mind fast tracking every kid on the road to a technical career and the rest be damned. Idiots I think was the word. My thought is the Chinese people will solve this dilemma eventually. The Union movement in
America didn’t just drop out of the sky. A lot of people had to be fucked over for that to have happened. I probably won’t be around to see it Blender buddy. But, I think China is in for massive uprising. Your post walked me right into I think breaking the forum rules. Damn it!

Respect.
Computers in our classrooms are scarce, not to mention 3d printers (even on universities, for example Architectural uni has only basic woodworking tools & some 30 computers). Kids are only thought to use office tools (owned by MS). They are creative but without knowledge to apply it, they are blocked. Behaving as if mentally challenged. Depressed and in angst. They wish only for a fish and they go to sleep starving. How will they strive for dreams and happiness, if not through crime, as it’s obvious in our state, is beyond me. No wonder majority here are self thought servants, farmers, gatherers and gardeners or highly educated and moved abroad. Guess we will have to better complement each other in the future.

Respect.

I shouldn’t go here. And, might be sorry I did. But, to equate the Chinese people with the American Labor Movement is respect. And, something that was paid for in blood and misery. I have seen the uprisings around the world but my country is no stranger to that my Blender friend. Workers in our country fought and died for certain rights. Yet, no child will ever see that in a history book. My head hit the concrete once and I thought I was dying. And, my infringement was carrying a picket sign. And, the riot stick that put me there was welded by a state trooper.

The Chinese people will eventually take care of business I believe. And, pay a terrible price in doing so.

Gave my respect to you, dear being. Am not concerned, ashamed a bit, though happy for all those who will benefit. I do not favor by race, sex, nation nor idea. Seemed as nice altruistic gesture. 3D printing is just a logical step on how to upgrade skills & work better in today-for-tomorrow environment. Even for artists…
