Catch shadows generated by an HDR environment texture ?

Hi,

I use an Environment Texture in HDR format so I can use it to generate shadows using the values of the HDR.

The problem is when I want the shadow pass of the Renderlayer where my ground is, it’s totally black. The workaround is the usual method : add a sun and try to match the shadow generated my the Environment Texture but it would be easy if the shadow generated by the HDR would be in the shadow pass (the AO pass works).

Is it possible or not please ?

Hi

Here is a video there show how You can play with shadow in a HDR texture…Dunno if it will solve Your problem.
It’s a nice video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R9Dum0mFSiw

Hi and thanks for reply. I have shadows with the HDR, the problem is to have this shadows in the shadow pass of the renderlayer :).

Not possible. At least not in render passes.
Shadows in render passes are very limited. You can use only lamps. It doesn’t work with emission shader of object or environment.

What are you trying to do? Maybe you don’t need it.

Ok thanks. I just want to use the HDR as only light source as I want to integrate an object in this HDR (so HDR is also used as a background). Using a sun and matching the shadows from the HDR do the job.
