need advice to bring me into the light

im in the dark with how to make the lighting better, i need some advice people!

Add a lamp?

I don’t thing lighting is the main problem. What are you going for?
If you are going for photorealism then I think you need to add more texture and normal maps (or bump maps), especially on the floor and the table. I would also add a window (offscreen) to give the light more of a natural feel.

photorealism would be nice, lol. Do i need to make two wine glasses inside of each other with inverted normals in order for proper glass transparency? I dont have any textures in that picture just materials, i am a pretty novice user. Anyways thanks for the advice!

three things make renderings successful

  1. geometrical depth and complexity
  2. some lights
  3. textures and materials

what you scene really lacks are good textures and materials - it looks very bland and basic - which is why the rendering feels odd

you have enough geometry detail so thats good

add lights on top of the table and maybe from a window
get the portal blender build
and then work on adding textures to the walls wood furniture table etc

render and you will see it instantly will look better

in games good textures totally hide the crappy geometry
