Hair falls into body during simulation

When a simulation is run in this file:
http://www.pasteall.org/blend/35565
the hair falls into the body at the shoulders. How can this be prevented so the hair comes to rest on the body surface?

I think you should make the scalp a separate object, and set the body to collision.

Edit: Hmmmm, just found that hair collisions are a little more complicated in Blender. It looks like the body needs a force field instead of collision, see, for instance https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N8VdjBsrk9M

The new 2.74 version uses collisions, but you may have to turn up the quality (in hair dynamics) and the number of hair segments.

I am using Blender 2.74. The scalp as a separate object. There are low poly deflectors for the hair for which Collision modifiers have been created. The hair segments have been doubled from default to 14. The quality steps have been doubled from default to 10. I used this video as a guide:

I still have hair falling into the body. The file can be downloaded from:

I used the file you posted earlier, separated the scalp, set the body to collision, and it worked like a charm…

Please upload your changes to my file to Pasteall.org or other place I can download it from so I can study it. I am unable to duplicate what you did.

I’m on a slow internet link, so I cannot upload big files.
I suggest you play with a simplified model with hair collision?

Can you post screen shots of your relevant panels at Properties Editor => Particles and Properties Editor => Physics?

I intended to upload a simplified model for you, but I have to admit I cannot get it working ;o( Hair collision seems to work to some extent, but in the end a considerable amount of hair intersects with its collider, even at the highest quality of simulation, even when the hair is settling in slowly. Looks like there is room for improvement…
