Are nude models allowed on Blendswap?

So I had a slightly unusual question, and thought that asking here would be the best bet for an answer. I looked on Blendswap but didn’t find an official statement on the matter in their AUP, and Google doesn’t help me either.

To what extent is Blendswap okay with nude models of characters being posted on their website? More precisely, are characters with fully visible “bits and pieces” allowed? Including if they can be animated and are, ahem… functional?

This isn’t because I plan to make porn, nor to get someone else to. Honestly I’m just working on some characters which I generally want to detail and be feature complete, as well as making it easy for people to animate whatever they want to with them. They will also be hidden by default, and included as either a secret feature or only enabled by an armature bone or a property.

Please contact Blendswap support instead of asking here. You will always get better support asking them directly than hoping that someone here who knows about your problem eventually sees the thread. I believe even the Blendswap guys have asked you to do that in your previous threads here.

I know it was suggested before, not sure if by a Blendswap admin. I’m generally used with asking questions on forums, rather than directly emailing a website directly, so I guess it’s a habit. I will contact them as well if I don’t find an answer.

Or better, go ahead and contact them now. Then share what you’ve found out in this thread. Then no one needs to ask again.

Here’s just an opinion - nudity has always been part of art. If anybody limits it, it’s 18th century behaviour.

My thoughts exactly. Sadly however, a lot of people are easily offended by things they shouldn’t be. So I’m asking both because I don’t want to risk getting myself banned from Blendswap by chance, nor starting a drama there if the place isn’t okay with this. I do of course assume it should be okay… I’ll know for sure when I get an answer from the team.

I don’t know about EU and the rest of the western world, but in USA if you show a nipple (especially female’s nipple) you are bound to experience shitstorm and crucifixion. However, all forms of violence and drug abuse are ok in the media. Go figure.

I got my response from the Blendswap team, more timely than I even expected! The general rule seems to be that it’s okay to post them, as long as they aren’t visible in the screenshots or pop up right away, and you must include a warning about NSFW content. These are things I was going to do anyway, so it seems to be all good

Yeah, I’m familiar with the whole anti-porn craze still going about. It’s unfortunate that certain stupidities continue to exist in modern society, but that’s how it is for now. Maybe a decade in the future, we will look back at today and laugh at how weird it was… the same way we can look back at the whole “video games make kids violent” drama that was strong around the early 2000’s and be glad it’s now mostly a thing of the past.

Look up Carl Jung,

People hate their shadow,
it is a symptom of a culture
with no sense of self.

Without a serious change in education, and
economy I fear the systems created to distract may
tear our country apart.

Also, a culture is only as cultured as its exposure to art…
and much of what they are exposed to these days is souless
and contrived, designed for the masses.

I wish that art was more free, and out in the street…

A nipple is a call to arms, but pieces of people raise no alarm?

Hi uys, Blend Swap support here.

Nudity is allowed on Blend Swap, but we normally will ask you for discretion, meaning:

  1. You shouldn’t make your preview image too explicit, because there are many kids on the Internet these days (we’ve been even asked to not allow explicit nudity by concerned parents, and we agree with them).
  2. You should warn about nudity in the blend’s title or description so people know what they are getting.

Normally we don’t mind nude base-meshes, but detailed models will be moderated more strictly.

@MirceaKitsune you would’ve gotten your answer days ago if you contacted us directly :stuck_out_tongue: I did answer this question from a user a few days back, can’t remember if it was you though :stuck_out_tongue:

Anyways, We hope you guys enjoy the new site update!

haha, yeah it was you, nevermind me

Yep. My model follows the guidelines mentioned and it’s all good. And yeah, I’ll remember to ask via the website email now.

Send your nude models to me.

Before people get too relaxed with their “conservative shaming”, I’d like to point out that usually these restrictions on nudity or adult material is spawned from concern for under aged viewers, not arbitrary sensibilities. There is a reason pornographic material is restricted to viewers +18, psychological studies are what reinforce this concern over who see’s what body parts. Meanwhile, studies on violent video games turn up nothing negative, so the lack of concern there is justified for now.

I’m not trying to confuse anatomy studies or art studies with pornography, but everyone draws the line somewhere differently and it’s completely subjective, so the only safe thing everyone reluctantly agrees on for now is “nudity of any kind should trigger the NSFW tag”

That said, I have no issue with nudity in art, I believe that the human body is a masters unrivaled work of art, but my opinions about any particular piece must be framed with context of who might view it. Yes, the west is somewhat stuck up about this stuff, but pushing the idea that “RTA is obsolete” isn’t the better option. (not that anyone here made such a statement)

I tend to apply the barbie doll standard. If it is more detailed then a nude barbie doll (boy or girl) Then it needs a filter.Otherwise my stance is if you can find it in the kids section of the toy store it should be alright for public consumption. Keep in mind you never know what wildhair will be up an admins ass for whatever reason. So establish reputation first before going to that envelope

aka. Boys get a bulge between the thighs at MOST ( If that much detail.)

Girls have NO details between the thighs or butt cheeks and the breasts should have no nipple detail on them. Ether in geometry or in texture. ( Although having the mesh made in such a way that said geometry could be added with little or no effort should be alright Use your best judgement)

I prefer not to dive into this discussion too much. Although I agree with warning about NSFW material to avoid offending people, I disagree with any kind of forced censorship. Telling someone it’s dangerous / illegal to see some pixels on a screen if they are under a certain age… well that should be highly offensive to any kind of intelligent person. I go as far as labelling this as “age discrimination”… but apparently a lot of people don’t see anything wrong with it and thing I’m crazy, so it’s best I shut up now and try again a few decades later.

I made those same arguments too, when I was 10 and wanted to see some naked breasts and other lady parts in action.

It’s not some arbitrary moral social engineering at work here that produced these types of censorship’s, psychological studies have reinforced why we should do this for good mental development. I’m not saying nudity is bad in all cases, their are countless tribes in hot regions of the world that won’t wear hardly any clothing, and they seem to be doing just fine, but at the same time their not going spread eagle in front of everyone.

Err, there’s a sizable number of adults who also find deep offense to that type of material (for reasons that would run afoul of the forum rules). I myself have virtually zero tolerance for it, if I could put pants on Michealangelo’s David sculpture I would do that.

As for whether or not to allow it, I would fully support a full-on ban on showing it in the thread thumbnails and in avatars here on this forum, because the whole argument of ‘not looking at it’ breaks down completely in cases where it’s virtually impossible to avoid (unless of course you outright block the forum in your firewall settings and decide to forego all chance of giving feedback regarding Blender or getting help).

@Ace
So you would destroy statues? Sounds familiar?

Feel pity for people with intolerance, enforcing dictatorship while being obscured by animal instincts & institutional belief tradition.
And those studies are idiotic. De facto: People that practice violence (being of virtual or real nature) become violent as they see fit. People that don’t look at or see bare people are in majority all intolerant of such. Go figure…

Glad we still have some with common sense, able to create compromises.

PS
Another solution would be a filtering option within an account to set/check - i don’t wanna see nudes.

Folks, this thread is veering both off-topic and near the edge of our forum rules. The question as it relates to the OP is settled. How about we leave it there?
