Create animation-ready clothing?

have an idea: create a piece of animation-ready clothing with this technique


and then use Subsur modifier (or normal map, displacement map, occlusion map…?) to get a nicer result when rendered
Is it a good way to achieve cloth animation? Is my idea right and good? Is there any better technique?
p/s: I’m trying to learn animation! :slight_smile: I want to know the most updated technique :frowning:
